Waste battery recycling rates have increased in recent years along with a growing demand for rechargeable batteries. In order to encourage businesses to use environmentally friendly batteries in place of highly polluting batteries and strive for further advancements, the EPA has adjusted battery recycling, clearance and treatment fee rates for manufacturers and importers as well as subsidy fee rates. The revised fees comply with the polluter pays principle and encourage appropriate recycling and treatment of spent batteries to protect the environment. The adjusted fees in this draft revision are posted online in the regulation preannouncement section of the EPA Web site (http://ivy5.epa.gov.tw/epalaw/index.aspx).
